Josiel came to Casa da Colina six months ago from Cariacica, a town in the state of Espírito Santo, to seek treatment for his addiction to crack cocaine. He started using drugs when he was 11, and stole from his family and on the streets to support his addiction. Since arriving in São Paulo he relapsed once, but returned to the treatment facility two months ago.
